W Beach was one of the 2 main landing places at Helles on 25th April. As it was strongly defended with machine guns on the cliffs at both sides and wire entanglements, even under water, the cost to get a foothold on land was terrible. It earned the Lancashires '6 VC's before breakfast' and the place became known as Lancashire Landing. Hunter Weston's headquarters were on the slope in the middle.
